Most work backpacks pick a side: either they look like gear and feel wrong in a meeting, or they look sharp and fall apart by the second winter. The Commuter Backpack refuses the choice. Topo Designs kept the silhouette clean and the colorblocking restrained, then built the thing out of the same recycled nylon it uses on packs meant for mountains, which is why it still looks composed after a few thousand subway rides.

What you notice living with it is the organization: everything has somewhere obvious to go, so you stop excavating your bag on the platform. At 25 litres it swallows a laptop, a change of clothes and lunch without turning into a duffel, and it stands up on its own when you set it down. Made in Vietnam in five colorways, from a Colorado company that has never much cared for logos.
